Become and Editor

Currently, you may participate by submitting your articles in either of the following two sections:

1. NEWS

Your submissions should highlight news that is of interest to emergency medicine physicians around the globe. Examples of such news would be new discoveries and products, and important announcements. If you choose to submit a story that would be considered local news, make sure it will be of interest to physicians from other countries. Your submission should be sent via E-mail as a Word attachment with a word count not to exceed 250. Supporting references will be required for cited articles if applicable. EMquiz.com reserves the right to reject submissions without providing an explanation.

2. CASE OF THE MONTH

We encourage the use of original photographs of patients, pathology specimens, gram stains, EKG's, radiographic studies, or other visual data to accompany your submission for potential publication on EMquiz.com. Submissions should depict findings that are pathognomonic for particular diagnoses relevant to the practice of Emergency Medicine, or unusual findings important to know, and interests with educational value. Accepted submissions will be published on the EMquiz.com web site.

A maximum of three different photos should be submitted for any one case including a glossy 5 X 7" photograph and a digital photograph in the JPEG or GIF format copied to a disk or CD with a resolution of at least 640 X 48. Radiographs and EKG's should also be submitted in hard copy and digital format (do not send X-rays). The back of each photo should contain the contributor's name, address, hospital or program, and an arrow indicating the top. Submissions should be shipped in an envelope with cardboad, but should not be mounted.

Photo submissions must be accompanied by a brief case history in the following format:

  1. Chief Complaint:
  2. History of Present Illness.
  3. Pertinent Physical Examination (other than depicted in the photo)
  4. Pertinent Laboratory Data
  5. One or two questions asking the reviewer to identify the diagnosis or pertinent finding
  6. Answer (s) and a brief discussion of the case including an explanation of the findings in the photo
  7. One to three bulleted take-home points or "pearls."

The case history must be submitted on the template. Please click on the word TEMPLATE at the end of the page to retrieve the template that should be submitted electronically. The case history should not exceed 250 words. If accepted for publication, EMquiz.com reserves the right to edit the submitted case history. Submissions will be selected based on their educational merit, relevance to emergency medicine, quality of the photograph (s), the case history, and appropriateness for public display. EMquiz.com retains the rights to use submitted photographs in future educational projects, with full credit given for contribution.

Photographs must not appear in a refereed journal prior to submission to EMquiz.com. Patients should be appropriately masked. Submitters must attest that written consent and release of responsibility have been obtained for all photos EXCEPT for isolated diagnostic studies such as EKGs, radiographs, gram stains, etc. The attestation statement is included in the submission template.
